Thanks to many I got to see (for me) some of these extraordinary birds
everyone is talking about. The Tufted Duck about the same time as Fred Schaffer, Ed Boyd, Mark Hoffman
and ???? on Friday Afternoon. Then thanks to Ed Boyd's kind generosity and that of Jim Brighton and Colleen
I got to see the Snowy Owls! Then I spent a few hours with Mike Bowen's Montgomery Bird Club Group Trip in
Ocean City (Sanderlings, Red Breasted Mergansers, Bonaparte's Gulls, A. Oystercatchers at Hoopers
Restaurant), West O.C. Pond (N. Pintail, Canvasbacks, N. Shoveler, Ruddy Duck, Hooded Mergs) Bayside Dev
Pond (A. Widgeon's, Gadwall, Redheads, Lesser Scaup, Ring-necked Ducks, Ruddy Ducks), and Assateague
Bridge (Dunlin, Pileated Woodpecker flew overhead)(not a complete
list for these places) I left and went in search of the Eared Grebe Yes! (in bay at end of 33rd street with a few
horned grebes), and then got to see the Eurasian Wigeon, and Barrow's Goldeneye at the yacht club in
Cambridge up close with Jennifer Elmer from Pocimoke?? (Thanks for your help Jennifer!) then on to
Blackwater (N. Harrier, G.B. Heron, Bald Eagles, A. White Pelicans, tons of Snow Geese, etc.). Thanks to Helen
Horrocks and Barbara Gearhart for the calls on the Barrow's Goldeneye and to Jim Statz for finding it (I think
anyway)! I think I added about 10 life birds to my list this weekend! Oh for more free time......Sarel Cousins
