My wife (Donna) and I arrived in Cambridge a bit before noon today. I
could be wrong but I don't think the Barrow's Goldeneye had been seen
since early in the morning (8:30 am was suggested as a last seen time).
We also did not see the Eurasian Wigeon though I heard it had been
seen. I thought I might have spotted the Barrows a couple of times
actually (catching a glimpse of some yellow in the bill of a female
Common or a head shape that looked convincing) but a conclusive sighting
eluded me. Later in the afternoon I saw 2 females inside the marina and
one of the two looked quite promising until they both flew and I lost
sight of one of them.

Anyway I managed to see the Tufted Duck once when I first arrived and
again late in the afternoon in the same spot. It was most often visible
from the small red & white building on the dock (that has been mentioned
in previous posts). The east side of the building also provided shelter
from the wind. I'm sure I'll go have another look if the Goldeneye
continues to be reported but I don't otherwise foresee doing another 4.5
hour vigil.

Regarding access to the yacht club ... I suspect that the "members only"
sign refers to the parking lot and building as the one person I talked
with (on the East side of the dock) was a local non-birder who was happy
to have me show him the Tufted Duck he had heard others talk about. He
offered that I could go inside the yacht club and warm up if I wanted to
which I respectfully declined.

It was nice to see the Tufted Duck anyway,

J.B.
