I was just outside to get the paper and walk the dog a little bit and 
heard the distinctive rapid "tchet tchet tchet" and "vheet" calls of a 
White-winged Crossbill flying by near my house.  Considering all the 
non-productive searching I've been doing, it was a very welcome sound 
first thing in the morning.  I'll keep searching though because I'd like 
to get some photos of a roving band of them stopping to feed.
