Hi all what a great weekend of birding in my home County Queen Annes and in Caroline as part of the Great Backyard Bird Count . I looked in any spruce tree lone in or in a grove but found no Crossbills you folks from the western shore please send some on over here please . Highlights two Pine Siskins showed up at my feeder briefly on Saturday morning 2 - 14 to be counted among the feeder regulars . While watching the feeder action on Saturday Afternoon an Adult Coopers Hawk rounded the corner of the house caught a Junco flew off to the brush nearby to pluck and dine on its prize .
In the late afternoon I made a trip to Rt 309 from Rt 213 from Centerville to the pond between Starr and Queen Anne prize here in view most of the time between 4:30 Pm and 5:30 pm was not one but two Short - eared Owls hunting the grassy meadow . My first in QA County in a number of years . One was in veiw very briefly but the other hunted in front of side , of me in my truck very close sat a very short while .Than latter sat on the bare frame of a goose blind at Pemberton Manor farm pond for extened Scope veiws .
This afternoon 2 -15 - 09 I went to Tuckahoe State Park and at the gate to the campground on cherry Lane there was one Catbird in the edge of the woods there . Lists are below .
