Hi Folks!

Ed Boyd and I did some birding on 2/21 and 2/22 in Worcester. Mike Burchett met us shortly after sunrise at Truitt's Landing. Along with the usual Marsh Wrens, Sedge Wrens, Virginia Rails and King Rails we found 7 BREWER'S BLACKBIRDS. We were alerted to their presence by some that were singing partial songs.? After that we did some marsh-tromping at Taylor Landing and found 4 Saltmarsh Sharp-tailed Sparrows, 2 Nelson's (Acadian) Sharp-tailed Sparrows and a SEASIDE SPARROW (unusual at this location uin this season). From there we spent a couple hours looking for sparrows at E.A Vaugh North. There were lots of Savannah Sparrows, but no unusal sparrow. An American Bittern flushed from the pond. The immature GOLDEN EAGLE was probably the very same bird that John Hubbell and I saw on January 18 at Truitt's Landing. A high flying Peregrine Falcon was probably a migrant on the south winds.

Mike headed to work, Ed and I went to OC Inlet. The tide was very low, so few ducks were seen because they like to be on the south side of the South Jetty. We found an immature Great Cormorant and saw about 1000 Northern Gannets in the hour we were there.?Unexpected was a male WOOD DUCK feeding at the tip of the South Jetty!. As we were packing up, Nico Sarbanes & Kevin Graff arrived. As a grroup we headed up to 33rd Street and got looks at the distant Eared Grebe. While there, Hans Holbrooke called and alerted us to Ipswich Sparrows on the grass at Shantytown where Nico got some nice pix. Ed and I then road the ORV Zone, which was very unbirdy. 4 Lesser Black-backed Gulls on the beach, no Snowy Owls, but a RAZORBILL close enough for a few photos.

Sunday Morning Ed and I wenet back to OC Inlet. The tide was coming in when we arrived and falling when we left 2 hours later. The ducks were visible and we found 1 female Common Eider, 3 King Eiders [a young male going into breeding plumage and 2 females], a near adult Great Cormorant, a Red-necked Grebe and another Eared Grebe.

The rain got to be a bit much so Ed and I wandered west. A stop at Blackwater NWR yieled 13 American White Pelicans and about 6 White-crowned Sparrows. A Peregrine was sitting on a telephone wire along Egypt Road. We then went to Chino Farm and spent an unsuccessful hour or so looking for the previously reported Northern Shrike.
