In my past visits to the sand pits I noticed that the numbers of species of
ducks have declined, especially the Ring - neck Ducks, and Coots. So for a
while I've been scratching my head wondering what happened to them.
Today while birding with my dad we stopped to look at the lakes that are
along Pit Circle Rd. at the end of 4th St in Pocomoke. To my shock and amazement
we found the missing ducks. The missing ducks are as follows,
50+ Ring -necked Ducks
29 Coots ( Still a small amount from last years count)
28 Canada Geese
45+ American Widgeons
5 Pied- billed Grebes
1 male Redhead ( first of year )
My best guess as to why the birds left the sand pits is that the Bald
Eagles where giving them a hard time.
