Hi Folks,
This evening I met Charlie Kucera at Southwest Area Park in SW Baltimore
Co.
to see if we could find some woodcocks, and we were not disappointed. We
flushed one from along the south loop trail (that goes past the model
airplane field) at 6:10 p.m., and then waited at the primary viewing area
for some activity. The primary viewing area is along the main path across
the bridge by the boat ramp, up the hill, and where the woods ends and
becomes much more open. Here we heard our first peent at 6:20, and had at
least three birds calling for 20 minutes. We also got to enjoy three
flight
displays.
Tomorrow evening should be a good time for these birds with the predicted
warm temperature and relatively light winds.
By the way, we're never sure what time the park gates will close, so we
park
at the light rail parking area just outside the park entrance and hike in.
