On Wednesday evening (25 Feb), Larry Hitchens, Dave Brenneman and I were treated to a great show preformed by 4 Short-eared Owls and one male Northern Harrier from about 4:45 to 5:50 PM at Pemberton Manor on Route 309 a few miles northwest of Queen Anne. See Amanda's comments below for details. Larry and Dave got many great photos. Thanks Amanda!

Yesterday around 5pm the Centreville middle and high school birding teams
visited Pemberton Manor and were delighted by the showing of the 3, maybe 4,
short-eared owls?hunting the fields.? We were amazed how close they came to
the road, giving the best looks anyone could get.? The owls preferred to sit
on the blind frame near the pond,?however some?flew down and sat in the
grass right in front of us, but for only a few moments.? Two of them
interacted many times, and if you listened you could hear them squawking at
one another.? Much better then searching the Dorchester marshes to see?a
glance of this awesome bird!
