MessageFolks

Gwen just forwarded this to me. It may effect the birds you are feeding so please read, especially the particular products that are potential problems. If you are using any of these take corrective action. Check the link for details. You don't need to read all the particulars in the string of messages, so I deleted most of them.

Thanks

George

FYI- and if it hasn't happened already, we should get word out on MD Osprey and SMAS once we have the facts in hand.

I was in the Dr office yesterday with Nick and think I sent you an all too brief message. Yes Cindy told us about the peanut butter as recall as did Audubon and a couple of other contacts. The birds were shipped out on Wednesday to the National Wildlife Health Center. Calls of dead birds continue to come in and they are still primarily Pine Siskens. We are encouraging people to take down there feeders for about a week and clean them before putting them back up. Hopefully that will encourage the birds to disperse. Poor things made it through one of the coldest winters on record just to get sick and die. I'll let you know what we find out.

If your interested this is the link for the recall:

Ongoing Issues Regarding Peanut Corporation of America Result in Scotts Voluntarily Recalling Five Wild Bird Food Suet Products That May Contain PCA Peanut Meal (February 16)
Thu, 19 Feb 2009 16:22:00 -0600

The Scotts Company LLC announced today that it is voluntarily recalling specific lots of five varieties of suet wild bird food products after learning those products may contain peanut meal purchased from the Peanut Corporation of America's (PCA) plant in Blakely, Georgia, because it has the potential to be contaminated with Salmonella.
