Before Saturday's Maryland Ornithological Society Board meeting, Joe Byrnes and Jeff Culler led a number of us on a nice early morning walk at Schooley Mill Park in Howard County. The clear highlight was a nice flock of ten White-winged Crossbills clearly seen by all of us feeding on cones in pine trees close to the last parking lot by the soccer fields. We had a total of 36 species including Pine Siskins sharing the same trees with the Crossbills, Cedar Waxwings, Swamp Sparrows, and Field Sparrows, as well as a possible Fox Sparrow (seen only flying away). A very nice location for us first-time visitors. I tried to write everything down, but if anyone else had additional species, let me know.
My full report from eBird appears below.
