I spent about 2 hours from 10-12 this morning at Piney Run Park, Carroll Co
hoping among other things for the WW Crossbills reported by Bob Ringler. As
so often happens, just as I was getting back to my car to leave, I finally
started hearing them. They started in the main collection of spruces by the
first parking area on the left after you enter. Then they flew into spruces
by the restroom, where I had my best looks, then further east, then looped
south and probably west to make another circuit through the spruces. I
counted 16 in one flight. Of the 4 or 5 birds I saw well, two were red
males.

Waterfowl was very scarce. 26 Tundra Swans flew over and probably settled in
the far west end of the lake. A good 500-1000 Canada Geese flew northwest
pretty high overhead, but I don't think they settled in the lake.

I can't say there were any other notable species except --- to those of us
who went through an entire day on the Baltimore Bird Club field trip to
Middle Creek, PA Saturday without a single White-throated Sparrow (but
compensated by 32,750 Snow Geese, a Ross's Goose and 4 S-e Owls) --- I can
proudly boast I saw about 10 Whitethroats at Piney Run! Also heard 2+
Siskins.

On the text issue...
I too find if I paste Word or Excel text into my email (on Outlook Express),
the double-spacing usually occurs. My solution is to paste that text into
Wordpad (with Font > Wrap Text off). Then I recopy that and paste it into
the email. Pretty tedious, but it usually works for me.
