I took a swing around Hains Point today, with a quick stop at the
Tidal Basin afterwards as well. There were a couple nice things around
at Hains, but the Tidal Basin was dead for the most part. The floating
dock that has been hosting the good gulls was devoid of a single
winged creature.
One of the Red-necked Grebes continues from last week, in the channel
on the DC side, perhaps 1/3 of the way out to the tip. There were
great numbers of Ring-billed Gulls feeding out in the Potomac, most on
the water but some feeding actively in the air. There was also a nice
gull roost over at Anacostia Park, but I was unable to even tell the
size of the birds in it because of the terrible heat haze. My FOS
Eastern Phoebe was out at the tip, a nice harbinger of spring. There
were also cherry trees (2-3) in full blossom!
