Walking into my meeting at the Charles County Board of Education HQ on
Radio Station Blvd in La Plata, I had a CHIPPING SPARROW singing at
10AM today.

On the way home, I saw a Red-tailed Hawk, then a Red-Shouldered Hawk,
then another Red-Tailed Hawk (over the course of 10 or so miles up
301). Each one I watched fly from the safety of the road side into a
tree on the median of this major highway. It's no wonder they get hit
by cars... these buteos hunt in some pretty rough neighborhoods.

Still hoping for an AA County Red-necked Grebe, I quickly stopped in
to Waterworks Park this afternoon. The maintenance folks accidentally
left a valve open a few months ago which emptied out the back half of
the reservoir. That resulted in a sizable fish kill, which might
explain the lack of waterfowl this winter.

See everyone tonight at Quiet Waters Park for the Hummingbird Lecture @ 8PM.

Good Birding,
