What a wonderful surprise to see the osprey back in St Mary's County this
evening. I saw 2 on the nest platform at Olde Breton Inn, 2 more flying
around the Compton ball field, 1 being harassed by two crows near Fritzie's,
1 at the nest platform at Rt 5 and St Andrews Church Rd, 4 at Beavue Ponds
sitting on two nest platforms and 2 on the electric poles, and 1 at Abel's
Wharf. I also observed a harrier attacking a red tailed hawk in the field on
the left at Beavue Ponds. The hawk was on the ground and the harrier would
fly by then come back and swoop down attacking the hawk. Eventually the
hawk flew away. Also a farmer was plowing his field and there was around
200 gulls flying behind him. Then I saw 3 Great Blue Heron, 1 redwing
blackbird, 1 kestrel, 4 hawks (2 red tailed and 2 red shouldered), 3
mourning doves, 2 meadowlarks, 20 scaup and 7 swans. What a fun evening.

Happy Birding to All,
Patricia Rose

P.s. for the past few days at my home in Callaway there has been both hawks,
mature and immature bald eagles flying over several times a day. They have
been traveling in the directions from St Mary's Lake towards St George's
Island and back....Still waiting for my first hummingbird of the season but
I am ready with two feeders out.

Yesterday evening the osprey pair on the nest on the South River (Riva
Rd, on your right as you cross the bridge) were back on their nest.
