Hi all

This morning when stepping out my back door at 6 am, I heard a Great Horned Owl hooting. I had seen a GHOW a few weeks ago when a mob of crows discovered it first in a tree next door. My question: could the hooting mid-way through March be an indicator that the owls had nested anywhere nearby?

PS Thanks to Kevin Graff who set me straight about the Trumpeter Swans at Violett's Lock. Of the nine swans I saw, only four were trumpeters. I have since done more reading on trumpeters and hope not to make the same mistake again.

PPS On that same trip to Violett's Lock, I had the happy experience of hearing two Winter Wrens singing their impossibly high-pitched cascade of sound.
