Yesterday (Tuesday, March 31) I spent several hours on the
Susquehanna River looking for the rare gulls that were reported
last weekend. About 4:00 pm, as I was scoping the river from
Lapidum Landing on the Harford County side, I got an excellent
view of the BLACK-HEADED GULL. It flew past heading
downstream and then crossed over to the Cecil County side of
the river (giving me two county birds!).
I am a bit less certain that I saw a LITTLE GULL. Earlier in the
afternoon, again scoping from Lapidum, I thought I saw a smaller
gull flying with a fluttering, "moth-like" flight with the Bonaparte's
Gulls on the Cecil County side. I drove over to Port Deposit and
tried looking for it from the boat ramp but was unable to relocate it.
