Wye Island Queen Annes County

   yesterday afternoon 4 - 13 - 09  after work  I headed close by  to Wye Island  in  Queen Annes County  to do some quick birding .  I checked the nesting spot the Black Vultrures  have used  on the Island for the  last several years  but only  found  the wing and some odd feathers of  the remains of a  Black Vulrure .  Birds Seen 


Common Loon        2  in breeding plumage   at  Bridge 
Great Blue Heron     2     flyovers 
D. C.  Cormorant    12   in flock  flyover
Wood Duck     2     male , female 
Green -  Winged  Teal    4   two female , two male 
Turkey Vultrure      4
Osprey   6
American Kestrel    2 one at Cheston lane   one on powerline on  Carmichael road 
Wild Turkey  4     1 at Cheston Lane and  Carmichael road    3 on the Island 
Mourning Dove   5
Red Bellied Woodpecker     2
Downy Woodpecker   1
Hairy Woodpecker   1
Northern Flicker     3
Pileated Woodpecker      2    both drumming and calling 
Tree Swallow    3
Blue Jay    3
Tufted Titmouse   2
Carolina Wren     2
Golden Crowned Kinglet     1
Eastern Bluebirds  3
Robin     4
Cardinal  5
Eastern Towhee   1 heard only  singing 
White Throated Sparrow   12
Dark Eyed Junco    2      most have left the area
