Highlights of 1.5 hours spent at Lilypons (southern Frederick County) yesterday morning (Friday 4/17):
Hooded Merganser (1 hen with approximately 12 tiny adorable fuzzy chicks!)
Blue-winged Teal (2 drakes and 1 hen)
Great Egret (1)
Killdeer (1)
Wilson's Snipe (2)
Barred Owl (vocalizing across the river)
Belted Kingfisher (1)
Purple Martin (several)
Blue-gray Gnatcatcher (several)
Eastern Phoebe (1 singing)
Brown Thrasher (1)
Yellow-rumped Warbler (1 singing)
Common Yellowthroat (1 singing)
Louisiana Waterthrush (seen briefly along the river)
Eastern Towhee (1)
No luck on the previously-reported Soras, Virginia Rail or American Bittern from the past week or so.
