This morning I birded the North Branch of the C&O Canal. Lots of new
arrivals were to be found, but the best bird was a FORSTER'S TERN which came
in to roost on the tarps for a while. Also, there was a large flock of gulls
roosting on the tarps, including 78 Ring-billed Gull, 5 Bonaparte's Gull,
and 1 Herring Gull. Not bad for Allegany county! I was also able to find 6
species of warblers including a buzzy sounding male BLUE-WINGED WARBLER.
Other firsts of the year included BLACK-THROATED GREEN WARBLER,
YELLOW-THROATED WARBLER, and BALTIMORE ORIOLE. See complete list below:
