Hi all. I didn't think I would be reporting this until 2016. Last week Harold Fogleman contacted me to let me know that on April 22nd they had 2 Mississippi Kites "soaring" the tree line off of Wilson Road in Rising Sun. They were observed for over 30 minutes. A couple days later they showed up again. I have been out there once but was not able to locate them.
Harold has not seen them since. However, yesterday when I was coming out of The Cecil County Administration Building on Chesapeake Blvd in Elkton, I saw a bird up close near the Wallmart. I pulled over for a minute and watched. Sure enough it had the right size and shape. It started soaring and insect catching for a couple minutes and then grabbed a hold of a thermal and shot up real high real fast. It then soared off toward the Cecil County Building and the tree line with the big power lines which is at the Delaware/Maryland line. There has been a lot of Dragon Flys in that area. I would bet thats what they are feeding on. I was not able to take a picture due to being in the work truck and a lot of Bosses travel that road. I was very excited and I think my co-worker is going to ask for a trasfer soon. Ha.
It happened at a time yesterday when the sun popped out around 12:00 noon yesterday and the thermals built up.
