Hi Everybody: HOPE EVERYBODY ENJOYED SOME WET BIRDING OVER THE W/E.
We Visited friends in St. Michaels over the weekend and I managed to sneak away on Saturday afternoon and Sunday morning. I headed out about 1 PM on Saturday and headed for route 331 and the Tanyard marsh in Caroline County. I try to check this area whenever I am in the area. The tide was high enough so that very little mudflats were visible. There were 3 GREAT EGRETS in ankle-deep water and little else of note. I quick check off of Frazier Neck Road showed that the infamous Caroline County Gadwall were finally gone. I then headed for NEern Caroline County to see if there were any puddles in fields that might contain shorebirds. I birded Kibler Road and struck out on shorebirds other than Yellowlegs but did find a few passerines at several locations. I guess that those field puddles I was looking for are just now beginning to form. On the way back to St. Michaels I checked out the Tanyard marsh off of Rt. 331 and had more of a variety due to a much lower tide. Among the Yellowlegs and Least Sandpipers were 21 SEMIPALMATED SANDPIPERS.
Below is an abridged list of the birds I saw/heard on Saturday afternoon - ALL sightings were in CAROLINE COUNTY
