I was at Riley's Lock about 6 pm tonight. Just upriver a flock of over
30 small white terns (w/ 2 Black Terns mixed in) were flying over the
river. Light conditions and distance made ID difficult (for me). As
the terns headed back down river towards Violette's Lock, I heard at
least 4 Common Tern calls and 1 Forster's Tern call. They flew over the
Seneca Breaks and than disappeared downstream. At Violette's Lock there
were 4 Greater Scaup and I saw a mother Common Merg with at least 6 young.
Earlier in the day in the vicinity of Patton Turf Farm, highlights
include 8 Bobolinks and 15-20 American Pipits and just north of White's
Ferry along Rt 107, a decent sized puddle held Greater and Lesser
Yellowlegs, Solitary and Least Sandpipers.
