I also saw several flocks of Cedar Waxwings today, ranging from a dozen
birds to more than 30, moving southeast with the wind gusts, but this was
during the DOS Bird-a-Thon, which the Maryland Ornithological Society helps
sponsor.

Is anyone still seeing Snow Geese in Maryland? I saw a flock of 10 Snows
this morning in New Castle. Is it possible they've decided not to go
anywhere because they get handouts there? Might Snow Geese, like Canadas,
decide to become residents? Watching them eat was alarming--they are
gluttons! One bird was not only ripping out the grass with its beak, but was
actively tunneling. Maybe it was just looking for clams, but the behavior
was quite a contrast to the rather delicate way Canada Geese graze.
