Hi all,
Besides the Black-billed Cuckoo I heard and saw this morning in our yard
and next door, and the adult White-crowned Sparrow which appeared beneath
our feeders in late morning, I saw a huge number of Cedar Waxwings moving
past all morning, including one small flock which landed in a small maple
tree in our front yard, briefly. This was perhaps the biggest movement I've
ever seen for waxwings, with flocks of 30 or more, and as many as ten or more
separate flocks moving past this morning. We also had a pair (or more) of
Brown Thrashers, one feeding in the grass out front while another perched
briefly on the roof rack of my daughters Jeep in our driveway. Later I saw
another land on the deck railing, then fly into the shrubs next to one of the
feeders. We have a mocker with babies in the nest in a holly along the
deck in back too.

Sadly, I found a dead Tree Swallow in one of my boxes this afternoon, it's
head pecked to a bloody stump by House Sparrows. Damn them! I cleaned it
out hoping maybe the swallows will renest (with another mate). Already I have
seen the House Sparrow pair in the box, and another pair of swallows
flying over and landing on it. I will remain vigilant...
