Hi all --

Not too promising for Rock Creek (cloudy, windy) so we opted to see what
Hains Point had to offer -- as it turned out, not much except for a
low-flying AMERICAN BITTERN near the tip -- right overhead and off in the
direction of the Anacostia. Whether it had been flushed from some spot on
the golf course (lots of mowers out) or what, it was a welcome sight as we
had missed Bittern at Kenilworth Aquatic Gardens this spring.

Otherwise very few birds of interest and just two obvious migrants, a
Northern Waterthrush along the lane near the maintenance area and a Veery
along the riverside fence-line. Other birds of note included a few singing
Yellow Warblers, Yellowthroats, Warbling Vireos, Baltimore Orioles and a
Spotted Sandpiper on the golf course. Nothing on the river save DC
Cormorants and the inevitable Canada Geese and Mallards.

But as it is often said, it only takes one good bird to make your morning!
