Hi Andy and all,
   I went to Summit Hall this evening, and the canal was indeed uncrossable
(at least for someone coming straight from work). I should keep a pair of
rubber boots under my desk. Anyway, there may well have been some shorebirds
there that I could not see through the trees, but I didn't actually see any.
I only heard one Killdeer vocalization. The lack of shorebird activity was
offset by a great deal of mosquito activity. All-in-all I'd say you made a
good decision to stay away.
