Subject: [MDOSPREY] Shorebird update, Chesapeake Farms, 5 June 2009
Sent: Jun 5, 2009 10:10 PM

Greetings,

We attended to some errands in town today and stopped by Chesapeake
Farms on the way home to check the status of shorebirds there. The rain
has recharged the water level somewhat, but there were still about 120
shorebirds of seven species present, along with numerous swallows,
meadowlark, and at least three vocal bobwhites.

We counted 4 Semipalmated Plovers, 1 Killdeer, 2 Greater Yellowlegs, 1
Lesser Yellowlegs, 80 Semipalmated Sandpipers, 4 Least Sandpipers,
and *28* White-rumped Sandpipers. The swallows (Tree & Barn) were
mostly coursing over the water, along with perhaps 40 Purple Martins,
many of which perched on the roadside fence or in the road. We saw no
sign of either teal species noted last week.

Looks like the front has moved offshore, finally. We'll be glad to see
the sun tomorrow.

Good Birding,
