Hey everyone,

Today was my one day a week to go to Poplar Island and monitor the Least
and Common Terns nesting there. We also checked on the Osprey nests too.

Shortly after we got on the island, we split up... I took a team to record
the nesting status of Common and Least Terns, the other team went over near the Double-crested Cormorant colony. Around 11:15am I met back up with the other team and a colleague told me... "hey, guess what I saw around 9:30 this morning?" He proceeded to tell me of an American White Pelican near the Cormorant colony. I thought, "oh, I'd like to see that". However, we did have a few other tasks to do before we could get back to that location. We got back to the cormorant colony site around 11:45am and looked for the AWPE. The bird was no where to be found. I wasn't all that surprised though given there were 2 OTHER teams working very close to the colony... one planting Spartina, the other checking on the DC Cormorants. If this record is important, my colleague DID get a digital photo of the bird and he showed it to me. For me,.. maybe "next time?"
