Saundra and others,

Yes, it is likely that your observed fish was a Goldfish.  Goldfish are
in the carp family and do well outside of a "captive setting".  They adapt well in wild areas and I have seen them at certain locations where one would not necessarily expect them.  

Also, I could see an Osprey taking a goldfish giving their color and visibility.  I know 2 friends that have Koi ponds and they have had 
Great Blue Herons take some or, most of their goldfish.
