Although this is news from a neighboring state, it may be of sufficient interest to some MD birders to warrant posting. If not, please accept my apologies!
Today I went to Mispillion just past low tide, looking for the friendly Clapper Rails that hang out near the bridge. Sure enough, one was taking a brisk and lengthy rail-bath, splashing and preening, even though the tide was coming in quickly.
After a bit, it scurried into the marsh – only to reappear a few minutes later, walking along the roadside – with three downy, black chicks! They were pretty close to me (remarkably close for RAILS!) and I tried to snap a few photos with my point and shoot as they lingered for a couple of minutes, watching me. I don’t think I have anything worthwhile, but for those with good cameras and a desire to capture rail chicks – looks like an opportunity here! Good luck!

This should read Woodbine, Carroll County MD. (I used to live in Ashton, in
Montgomery County, but have been here 2 years now...).
