Pied-billed Grebe 2 The young bird was initially close to the adult bird; but the young bird moved away after brief contact. Inflating the throat, the adult bird sang several times and young bird responded by moving a little closer then lost interest. The young bird was 2/3 the size of the adult with red and/or orange coloration on the lore and/or upper bill. The light-colored cheek had dark streaks that curved down onto the neck.
