Earlier this morning I saw a Pied billed grebe with young on the lake at Druid Hill Park. With North being 12:00 the birds were found in the 1:00 position where Hanlon Drive and East Drive meet. Some details below...

Pied-billed Grebe 2 The young bird was initially close to the adult bird; but the young bird moved away after brief contact. Inflating the throat, the adult bird sang several times and young bird responded by moving a little closer then lost interest. The young bird was 2/3 the size of the adult with red and/or orange coloration on the lore and/or upper bill. The light-colored cheek had dark streaks that curved down onto the neck.
