Harris' and I were out?in the boat on?King's Creek last night recording birds for the Tanyard Marsh IBA. As we turned a corner, we spotted a duck that attempted to fly, but was struggling due to probably a broken wing. When we got a good look at it, we were stunned to see it was a Lesser Scaup. We tried to approach it, but when we got too close, it dove out of sight (but we later spotted it again in the same area).? This bird must of survived since winter and could never leave, and with it still able to dive, must be pretty safe from the hungry eagles. But it's still amazing that it's still alive in June!
