I stopped by the front pond at Western Regional Park in Howard County this afternoon to look for shorebirds. Upon arriving at 2 PM I watched a peep circle over the pond for several minutes before it decided to land. It was a Least Sandpiper. After watching it for a while I noticed that there was another bird by a Great Blue Heron, which had been alone in the middle of the pond when I arrived. The second bird was a Greater Yellowlegs. The mudflats look pretty good so more shorebirds should visit there before the pond dries up.
