Several people asked the location of yesterday's American Avocet at Piney Run, so I wrote and asked Barry Hoskins. Apparently it was at the reservoir in Carroll County. Barry replied:
"We saw the bird at the developed side of the park right next to the southern most boat ramp. It was there when we launched our kayaks at 11 am and still there at 2 pm when we returned. We looked for it today but did not see it."

Dear Mr Hoskins,

Liz Pomper at Audubon Action forwarded me your e-mail about your sighting of an American Avocet yesterday. That was quite a find - Avocets are a rare bird in Maryland. Would you be so kind as to give me more complete directions so I can go and look for the bird. Was it in Piney Run Reservoir in Carroll County? I know there are several other parks with similar names. And which part of the park was it in?

Thanks in advance for any information you can give me.
