Yes.  Tree Swallows only raise one brood a year.  Barns will nest twice.
      I think other people have touched on it, but the reason for the early 
nesting failures was the weather- cold and wet which reduced the number of 
insects.  Also I think many ground nests were destroyed by flooding.
