I know someone who put up four bluebird houses, and the blues have
successfully raised two families and are working on a third, but the two
boxes with tree swallows raised only one clutch each. Do swallows nest only
once a season?

When we were in the Adirondacks, Gary Lee, who led the walk to Ferd's Bog
and is the co-author of the guide we were using, made a comment that all
swallow numbers seem to be down this year. He had no explanation for it. We
had a pair of Tree Swallows nest successfully in one of the boxes in our
yard. As for bugs, there are always plenty to go around. That's not it.
Particularly in the Adirondacks.....
