The heron festival continues at the Lake Elkhorn vicinity in Columbia. Early this morning (7/19) near the bridge at the upper end of Elkhorn were a Great Egret, a first summer Black-crowned Night Heron, adult and juvenile Green Herons, and a Great Blue. At nearby Forebay Pond was the juvenile Little Blue, another Great egret, two Killdeer and a calling Blue Grosbeak. It was also nice to see two Whitetail Deer bucks feeding by the water's edge, their antlers in velvet.
