Subject: Shorebirds in DC and Black-billed Cuckoo (Extralimital)

Since I still cannot post to MDOsprey I'm posting here - I think it
might be of interest at least to NOVA birders to be on the lookout for
all the shorebirds that are suddenly popping up in the area.
I spent a couple hours at Kenilworth Aquatic Gardens in DC and had a
good assortment of shorebirds as well as a Black-billed Cuckoo that cu-
cu-cu-cu'd at me a few times. I finally got on it right as it decided
to fly deeper into the woods, never had a good view but definitely an
unmistakable call. I didn't see the Pectoral Sandpiper that was
reported here yesterday, and missed the juvenile Little Blue Heron
that was reported at Kingman Lake in DC, but had a good (yet extremely
buggy) early morning. Now off on this murky day to Violette's Lock to
search for the Tricolored Heron that was there a couple days ago -
maybe it'll cross the river into Fairfax County.
Cheers,
