I swung by North Beach Marsh on my way to Friendship to meet the carpool. The first birds I saw as I got out of the car were Least Terns. There were two of them flying over the small pond on the south side of the beach. Then I looked over the marsh and there was a juvenile Tri-colored Heron sitting on the mud fairly close to the road. Also on the far side of the marsh was a juvenile Black-crowned Night-Heron. By the time I left, there were 9 Least Terns sitting on a log on the back side of the marsh and several more flying around. My high count was 13. There were several in juvenal plumage, one being fed small fish by an adult. The Tri-colored Heron had disappeared into the reeds. I hope it comes back in case anyone wants to twitch it.

Also present was one Short-billed Dowitcher, 5 Least and 1 Semipalmated Sandpiper and a Killdeer. I expected more shorebird diversity as the conditions were ideal.
