I think that's the abbreviation for YELLOW-THROATED VIREO. I tend to lose
track of the abbreviations real easy. None the less I had my best look at
one this year in a real exotic strange place - my own back yard. Usually
these are one of those birds we can't seem to find up there in the canopy.
It's always a thrill when they come down and show themselves. This is the
time of year when birds are breaking up the breeding operation and starting
to meander around (dispersing?) and perhaps even edging toward migration.
Obviously this is what this bird was doing, although he was singing as he
did it. That's what attracted me to him as I sat out back having breakfast.
He sent me running for the bins and when I came back out he had moved low
into a tree where I could pick him up fairly quickly.

This is also an interesting time of year for Tanagers. If you hear one, do
your best to locate the bird. The males can look real funny as they change
into their green winter clothes. They can remind you of a painted bunting
with the mix of red, green and black all splotched together.
