-- ostensibly to check for migrating bird silhouettes,
(so Norm won't think this off-topic)
I did check out Jupiter which is now "in opposition,"
-- i.e., rising in the SouthEast opposite the sun
setting in the west --
At midnight (and I'm sure earlier, too) I had the best view
I have ever seen of Jupiter and the 4 most visible moons.
(The two nearest ones were on the left and the furthest
ones to the right -- tonight. They will likely have shifted
noticeably by tomorrow night.)
Two horizontal bands on the planet itself were visible
with my 32 power lens.
Not a thrill for everyone, but you might be surprised
by this glorious sight.
For the record, I saw no purple martins fly across the disc
but a mosquito found me and my bare feet. I chose
discretion and went in.
