My solo ventures into Caroline County this weekend were largely unproductive (tempted to add as usual), but I did find a good shorebird field in the northeast part of the county late on Sunday, where I saw 4 Black-bellied Plovers along with a few Semipalmated Plovers and scores of Killdeer. It was a large field cleared down to the dirt. It didn't have a lot of water despite all the storms, but it still should be a good place to check for American Golden-Plover and Buff-breasted Sandpipers in the next few weeks.

The field was at the corner of Rt 287 and Jarrell Rd, about 2 miles east of Rt 313 at Goldsboro. In Delorme (p. 51), Rt 287 is labeled Sandy Island Rd. On google maps, it's also called Sandtown Rd. The birds were mostly on the south end of the field, best viewed from Jarrell Rd.

Other birds of note in Caroline...when I stopped by the flooded field near the Ridgely sewage plant, it had a Pied-billed Grebe in it in addition to the shorebirds reported by Bill Hubick. A quick stop into Martinak State Park had 2 migrants -- a Blue-winged Warbler and a Chestnut-sided Warbler.

A dusk watch at Tuckahoe yielded no nighthawks, but there were a lot of bats and a good flight of 13 Green Herons.
