At 0715 this morning I had an Upland Sandpiper flyover heading south over Chino Farms near the Chester River. I watched the bird for as long as I could, but eventually lost it over trees. It did appear to descend slightly behind the trees where a recently harvested alfalfa field is. I checked the alfalfa field at 1300, but did not locate it. The field was only harvested about a week and a half ago and is already getting tall, so it can certainly be in there. Scanning the field I only could see 4 Killdeer heads, but when the birds got up there were 13 Killdeer and one unidentified sandpiper which may have been a Baird's, but I can't say for sure. The bird was too large and long-winged for any of the small peeps and it was not a White-rump as it did not have a white rump. I only saw the bird in flight, the alfalfa is too high to see it on the ground.

If people are in the area it may be worth checking on. Most of the field is viewable from the road at the intersection of Kibler and Round Top road. Park off the road and look over the wooden fence to the north.
