After several weeks of birding by car, I got back to my roots today: birding by bike. I biked in Rock Creek Park going from Bethesda to Lake Needwood and back. I wasn't able to get started until almost 1pm so I wasn't expecting much in the way of migrant passerines, but I encountered a nice group just south of Southlawn Ln. The highlights were:

Chestnut-sided Warbler 2
Canada Warbler
Blackburnian Warbler
Northern Parula
Magnolia Warbler

I also had a Black-and-white Warbler near Oriental Rd.

At the north end of Lake Needwood the water was higher than on my last trip and so the shorebird habitat was much reduced. The only shorebird was a single Solitary Sandpiper. Other birds of note were my first Blue-winged Teal of the season and three Great Egrets.
