The Yellow-cr Night-heron reported by Mikey Lutmerding on Thur was seen
by us this eve at ~ 7 pm. We had seen the same bird on Fri am but not
reported it since we had but a fleeting glimpse beore it landed in the
grass and (as it were) stepped into an open man-hole and disappeared so
fast that we could not distinguish which species of "Nycticorax" it was.
Today, the bird, an imm, was feeding quietly in plain view close to the
road, swallowing what seemed to be a whole clam (but is that possible?)
Also present among the ~30 Semi-palm S'pipers was one Western and one
Least, and 2 Semi-palm Plovers. The 65 Snowy Egrets of the past week
were down to ~ 30, and heading off to some roost, glowing yellow-tinged
in the light of the low sun, against a spectacular sky.
Also this negative report - 7 days of sky-watching at dusk between 7:45
and 8:15 have not yet yielded a single Nighthawk. Huntingtown is
apparently well off their fly-way.
