Hi Everybody: After 7 consecutive long days of work I decided to spend my Tuesday & Wednesday birding on the eastern shore. Sorry for the late post but this is the first chance I have had to report. I left Gaithersburg at 2:30 AM this past Tuesday so that I could be at Bayside on Assateague in Worcester County just before sunrise.

I stayed on Assateague until mid-morning. The previous night's migration was fairly slow with very small numbers of migrant passerines. I then went to Castaways Campground (most but not all of the species reported by Bill Hubick from 9/12) and then worked my way up to the Tull Road Turf Farm in Worcester County. After that I decided to look for warblers and other migrants concentrating specifically on some of the bridge crossings that connect Wicomico and Worcester Counties. I was then going to work my way up towards Salisbury where I was intending on meeting Ron Gutberlet in the evening when he was done with work. Below is an abridged listing of the birds I encountered.

BAYSIDE ON ASSATEAGUE - WORCESER COUNTY

Great Egret 53
Snowy Egret 7
Tricolored Heronn 4
Little Blue Heron 1

Merlin 1 This bird spent over 2 hours at Bayside constantly swooping low over the vegetation for several minutes and then returning to a perch in a small tree at the water's edge. It did not help with trying to find migrants after a slow night of migration with the merlin constantly flying around. I never saw it take another bird, only about 4 dragonflies.

BLACK-BILLED CUCKOO 1 An adult bird which I had scoped views of before it dropped into thicker vegetation.
Cedar Waxwing 16
N. Parula Warbler 2
A. Redstart 9
Yellow Warbler 1
Black & White Warbler 1
Magnolia Warbler 1 (a County Bird)
Baltimore Oriole 2

LIFE OF THE MARSH TRAIL
Least Sandpiper 10
Semipalmated Sandpiper 1
Yellow Warbler 1

LIFE OF THE FOREST TRAIL
White-eyed Vireo 4
House Wren 1
Black & White Warbler 1

TULL ROAD TURF FARM - WORCESTER COUNTY
Laughing Gull 220
Forster's Tern 3
Caspian Tern 1
Killdeer 75
Semipalmated Plover 7
Black-bellied Plover 2
American Golden Plover 4
Least Sandpiper 6
Buff-breasted Sandpiper 1 This species was first reported by Mike Burchette several weeks ago; I tried unsuccessfully
once before; shortly after I saw it towards the back of the field (scope needed) and it flew
to the right and spent alot of time in and out of view in a pile of dirt clumps. The buff-
brested was a county bird for me.

SHEPHARD'S CROSSING ROAD (at border of Wicomico and Worcester Counties) All birds here listed were in Wicomico

Screech Owl 1
White-eyed Vireo 2
N. Parula Warbler 1
NASHVILLE WARBLER 1 (A county bird)

PURNELL CROSSING ROAD (at border of Wicomico & worcester Counties) With very few exceptions all birds seen here were on the Worcester County side of the bridge.
Cooper's Hawk 1
Ruby-throated Hummingbird 2 (also one in Wic. Co.)

OLIVE-SIDED FLYCATCHER 1 An adult bird first seen perched on a tall thin bare branch and then observed feeding and flycatching for 15 minutes (about 3:15 - 3:30PM) ; I later came back and observed the same bird from 4:20 to about 4:40 before it made a beeline behind some trees and out of sight behind some trees presumably towards Wicomico County and I never saw it again. This was a county bird in Worcester (and regrettfully not in Wicomico). Ron Gutberlet arrived at 6 PM and we could not relocate the bird.

A. Redstart 3
Magnolia Warbler 1
NASHVILLE WARBLER 1 As I was looking at the Olive-sided the Nashville flew in and briefly landed less than a foot
away. I later saw one in lower vegetation as well (same bird?). (A county bird).
Black & White Warbler 2
Warbling Vireo 1 Came out briefly and perched on the telephone wire, had quick views through the scope and then
dropped out of sight. (A county bird)

While I was there I also had a Red-eyed Vireo and an A. Goldfinch perch on the same branch as the Nashville Warbler did while looking through the scope at the Olive-sided Flycatcher.

ADKINS POND PARK - WICOMICO COUNTY Ron and I spent a half hour here before running out of daylight

Snow Goose 2
Wood Duck 1
Great Egret 2
Little Blue Heron 1(flew by us while on the boardwalk; (JG only - a county bird)
Wood Thrush 1
