Cromwell Valley Park HawkWatch  -  Thursday, 9/24/09  -  8:30 AM to 5:00 PM  -  3 observers

With overcast skies and little wind, the first half of the day was quite slow with only a dozen or so migrating raptors seen.  The highlight of the morning was not a raptor sighting at all,  but 4 Pileated Woodpeckers which were very vocal and active in the trees just behind the hawk-watch site for about an hour.  A change of wind and some clearing sky by late afternoon brought a nice flurry of 6 species of hawks.
