Highlights of birding in my yard (southern Frederick County) this weekend:

Saturday AM (9/26):

Warblers: Cape May, Yellow-rumped, Chestnut-sided, Magnolia, Black-throated Green, Black-and-white, Pine, Northern Parula, American Redstart, and Common Yellowthroat.

Non-warbler highlights: Ruby-crowned Kinglets, Blue-headed Vireo, Scarlet Tanager. At least 17 Chipping Sparrows were frantically foraging.

Hummingbird note: Our last Ruby-throated Hummingbirds (3 juvenile males as of 9/19) haven't been seen since last Sunday (9/20). I briefly glimpsed a hummingbird leaving one of the feeders on 9/26, which put me on alert, but he/she hasn't returned since to my knowledge. Still watching, waiting, and hoping for an interesting visitor.

Sunday AM (9/27), mostly during light rain:

Warblers: Tennessee, Magnolia, Black-throated Green, Black-and-white, Northern Parula, American Redstart, Common Yellowthroat.

Non-warbler highlights: Blue-gray Gnatcatcher, Brown Thrasher (calling repeatedly), and several Gray Catbirds (as opposed to just two yesterday).

Behavior note: One hatch-year male Northern Parula sang the Type B song repeatedly while foraging. One Gray Catbird (possibly a hatch-year practicing) sang very quietly, and slowly at times, for an extended period. Nice to hear occasional song snippets at this time of year.
