Hello Everyone ,
It has been an exciting soggy day here in Brooklyn!! Brooklyn is in the south part of Baltimore city for anyone still thinking i meant Brooklyn New York. I have been birding from inside the house all day and the birds were active all day . I got two new yard birds today . The Golden crowned kinglet and the Bald Eagle . The Golden crowned kinglet joined the 2 Rubycrowned kinglets(who i got as new yard bird 2 weeks ago ) in the pine tree in the yard . I was thrilled to get to just sit and watch these birds pick this tree apart all day when about 2:00 i spotted something large flying over the pond that i have a view of from my windows . It was a large dark colored bird but i thought i was seeing some white . i ran to a different window for a better view . i heard the Red shouldered hawk calling so i figure well i guess thats what i was seeing . then i spotted a very large bird sitting in the large tree that sits beside the pond . i run for a pair of
binoculars and yep it was a Juvenile Bald Eagle . He then did a couple circles over the pond i guess thinking about getting himself a mallard and then he landed back in the same tree but up higher . i ran for the Scope and the camera and got a few terrible shots. it was spooked after the motor bike went past it the second time and he headed towards Ritchie hwy. It may have been one from the Nursery road Eagle pair. about an hour after the Eagle was gone the hawk did a little show . he flew low about 100 feet from the yard looking like it was carrying something . he flew into the regular strip of trees next to the pond .i sat watching the trees hoping to see if he did have prey . after around 10 minutes he came out and landed in that same tree next to the pond the Eagle had been in. (ive also seen GB Heron and Little blue heron in this tree. Is it possible he could have eaten his meal in 10 minutes . ??? Wow i like these kind of rainy days.
