Join the Montgomery County Sierra Club, Montgomery County Bird Club, and the Department of Environmental Protection on Sunday, October 25 at the Blue Mash Nature Trail, Laytonsville, MD, for a beginner’s bird walk (7:30 a.m.) followed by a tour of the former Oaks landfill (9 a.m.). Staff from the Division of Solid Waste Services discuss what happens when a landfill closes to minimize environmental impact, show us the gas collection and leachate pretreatment systems, and take us for a tour of the of methane gas-to-electricity plant.
